Store to Door is launching a Sustainability Initiative to provide food security and safety for Portland’s most vulnerable residents

THE CHALLENGE: An increase in the population of older adults and decrease in resources for care is generating a growing demand for Store to Door’s services. The number of people 65+ in the Portland region is projected to double from 190,262 in 2010 to 394,406 in 2030. The demand for Store to Door’s unique service is growing along with the elder population and Store to Door must grow to meet that need. To serve this booming population of seniors; Store to Door must build organizational and program capacity and expand our major donor base.

THE SOLUTION: Store to Door has a 24 year track record of providing an efficient, affordable service that is critical to the health of the community. In 2012, we met a 10% increase in demand for our program without sacrificing Store to Door’s personalized level of service or raising the delivery fee. If we are to continue to meet the rising demand, we must invest in improved agency infrastructure and diversify our fundraising efforts.

THE INITIATIVE: To ensure vulnerable seniors in the Portland area continue to have affordable access to groceries, prescription medications, and household supplies, with the help of the Fairbridge Foundation, we are launching this Sustainability Initiative. The goal of this initiative is to establish an ongoing major gifts program that will generate new sources of sustained revenue. Contributed support is absolutely necessary sustain our growing operations. Store to Door’s Sustainability Initiative is bolstered by a gift of $10,000 from the Fairbridge Foundation, which has challenged us to match their gift with 10 or more contributions of $1,000 each. Individuals are encouraged to make a commitment to give at this level for three consecutive years, in order to further support the sustainability of Store to Door’s critical community service.

ACT NOW: The deadline to raise $10,000 to match the challenge gift is June 30, 2013.
